Protecting your details
This guide is for directors and persons of significant control (PSCs) who are at serious risk of violence or intimidation and want to apply online to protect their details from being disclosed on the Companies House public register.
This guide only applies to online applications for limited companies. Separate guides are available for paper applications, limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and overseas companies.

Types of protection
There is one type of protection available to directors, and two types of protection available to PSCs.
1. Home address protection
Directors and PSCs can apply to have their home address withheld from CRAs (credit reference agencies).
2. PSC identity protection
PSCs can apply to protect their identity so that information linking them to their company is not shown on the public register or shared with CRAs. The public register will show that there is a PSC who’s subject to protection. Your information will still be available to specified public authorities, such as the police.
Evidence we need
You must be able to prove that your company’s activities put you (or someone who lives with you) at serious risk of violence or intimidation.
Evidence can include:
- a police incident number
- documentary proof of a threat or attack, such as photos or recordings
- examples of disruption or targeting, such as by animal rights or other activists
- examples of your work for the company whose activities put you at risk
Application fees
It costs £100 to protect your details.
You can pay by MasterCard, Visa, Electron, Maestro or Delta debit or credit card. You cannot pay using a Companies House account.
How long it takes
It takes at least 30 days to process an application, but complex applications can take up to a year. Your details will be protected while we process the application.
