Our aim at Noah’s Ark Family Project is to improve the well-being of children and their families by supporting individual children and groups of children to experience pleasure and have a moment where the world fees like a safe and caring place. We work with nature and an amazing family of animals to bring pleasure and laughter to the children and young people we work with.On most days we are in the playroom, therapy garden, stable and fields with children who are able to explore and make a mess – generally be children. We have three dogs who are involved in most activities (where appropriate) and a naughty pony who pokes his nose into anything that he can.The children we work with have hard stories. They may be in care or adopted families, they may be excluded from school or unable to manage attending school due to anxiety. They may have difficulty maintaining relationships and behave in a way that may harm their relationships with peers and family. We place the highest importance on building relationship, self-worth, and confidence. We work with several local schools and are seeing a pattern in all these school of an increase in the number of children who need additional support. We delivery small group sessions for schools where children can come and explore whilst building friends and working collaboratively. We are seeing an increased need for this work; however, schools are struggling to pay for this session. Therefore, we will be seeking grant funding to support schools. We also deliver training to parents, carers and school. Our aim with this training is to increase skills for the adults, which in turn will support far more children than we could ever work with. We aim to continue to deliver training both in person and we will be working to deliver online training at an affordable price, with the aim of reaching as many parents and teachers as possible. With the work we do with animals, we also have a responsibility to the animals and we are starting a new project where we will be going into schools to deliver sessions on how to care for their own dogs and how to safely greet strange dogs, with the goal of helping children to respect and be safe around their own dogs and those they meet on the street. We will continue to offer emotional support to the parent of the children we work with and offer family group sessions where we will support families who need new skills in the home.
We continue to consult with both parents, children and young people to ensure that our project delivers the service that is needed and wanted. This consultation process is instrumental in planning and development of our service. We seek feedback on our training to aid in improving our delivery and meeting needs.Consultation may include feedback from service users, planning activities for children done with children and parents. We seek information from referring professionals to understand the needs of the children they work with and where appropriate, we plan and develop our project according to need.We also deliver specialist training to those professionals who work with the demographic we service, and we collate feedback forms on the completion of a training programme. This helps us to understand the needs professions identify.
