2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
|
Basis of preparing the financial statements |
|
|
Turnover |
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, |
value added tax and other sales taxes. |
|
Sale of goods |
Revenue is recognised for the sale of goods when the vendor has transferred the significant risks and rewards |
of ownership, it is probable that the economic benefit will flow to the entity and the revenue and associated costs |
can be reliably measured. |
|
Rendering of services |
Revenue for provision of services is recognised when it is probable that an economic benefit will flow to the |
entity and the revenue and costs can be reliably measured. For continuing services, revenue is recognised |
when the stage of completion can be reliably measured using a percentage of completion method. |
|
Tangible fixed assets |
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost (or deemed cost) or valuation less accumulated depreciation and |
accumulated impairment losses. Cost includes costs directly attributable to making the asset capable of |
operating as intended. |
|
Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated |
residual value, of each asset on a systematic basis over its expected useful life as follows: |
|
Plant and machinery etc - 25% on cost and 10 - 20% on reducing balance |
|
Stocks |
Stocks are stated at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost includes |
all costs of purchase, costs of conversion and other costs incurred in bringing stock to its present location and |
condition. Cost is calculated using the first in, first out formula. Provision is made for damaged, obsolete and |
slow-moving stock where appropriate. |
|

Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to |
the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. |
|
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. |
|
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or |
substantively enacted by the balance sheet date. |

Deferred tax |
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the |
balance sheet date. |
|
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from |
those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws |
that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal |
of the timing difference. |
|
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they |
will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. |
|
Leasing commitments |
Rentals payable under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of |
the lease. |
|
Employee benefits |
When employees have rendered service to the company, short-term employee benefits to which the employees |
are entitled are recognised at the undiscounted amount expected to be paid in exchange for that service. |
|
The company operates a defined contribution plan for the benefit of its employees. Contributions are expensed |
as they become payable. |
|
Financial instruments |
All financial instruments are recognised initially at transaction price excluding transaction costs and |
subsequently at amortised cost. These include cash at bank, trade and other debtors and trade and other |
creditors. |
|
Debtors and creditors receivable / payable within one year |
