The company launched it's first funded project: Made With Intent in April 2022. Funded by Awards for All and Robin Leith Foundation this project involved community members from Cumbernauld and further afield in repurposing and upcycling tents abandoned at music festivals, turning them into decorative pieces of visual art. These were used to decorate a stage at Doune The Rabbit Hole music and arts festival, and as a result of this the company was subsequently commissioned by Solfest Festival to help decorate 2 of their areas. Both events served as a catalyst to form a community of makers. Participants included those affected by issues such as isolation and loneliness, mental and physical health challenges and domestic violence. As well as using and building skills in areas such as sewing, crafting, cutting, painting and installing decor, the group formed close bonds with one another, providing all members with a stronger personal support network.
Our sessions are very social and naturally involve lots of time for conversation. Our key stakeholders are our participants. We have consulted on best days and times to run activities and the types of activities desired, as well as evaluating the impact on individuals through surveys, check ins and the gathering of quotes and testimonials. In November 2021 a community survey was launched in partnership with MugStock Festival, leaseholders of the MugShack, our registered office and workshop space. MugStock had recently taken on the lease, and the survey was designed to find out from local residents and other stakeholders what issues they perceive and what types of activities they would like to see happening in the new space. The survey received 165 responses. It revealed that the most important reported issues (in order of priority with % of those reporting as an issue) were:Sustainability & The Environment (81%)Finding Things for Adults to Do (84%)Having Opportunities to Socialise with Others (74%)Mental Health (61%)Having Opportunities to Be Creative (68%)Affects of Disability / Ill Health (49%)The project Made With Intent which combines creativity and sustainability in a creative context designed to be a catalyst for social connection seemed to tick many boxes and so was selected as the first project to seek funding for and deliver.
