Notes to the Abbreviated Accounts |
for the Year Ended 30 September 2016 |
|
1. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
|
Basis of preparing the financial statements |
The financial statements have been prepared under applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United |
Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard for Smaller |
Entities (effective April 2008). |
|
Accounting convention |
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with the Financial |
Reporting Standard for Smaller Entities (effective January 2015). |
|
Exemption from preparing a cash flow statement |
Exemption has been taken from preparing a cash flow statement on the grounds that the company qualifies as a small |
company. |
|
Turnover |
Turnover represents net invoiced sales of services in respect of contracting, excluding value added tax. Sales are |
recognised at the point at which the service is complete. |
|
Tangible fixed assets and depreciation |
|
|
Plant and machinery | - |
|
Fixtures and fittings | - |
|
Motor vehicles | - |
|
|
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less depreciation. Cost represent purchase price together with any incidental costs of |
acquisition. |
|
Work in progress |
Work in progress is valued on the basis of direct material and labour costs based on a normal level of activity. Provision is |
made for foreseeable losses where appropriate. No element of profit is included in the valuation of work in progress. |
|
Deferred tax |
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date, |
where transactions or events that result in an obligation to pay more or a right to pay less tax in the future have occurred by |
the balance sheet date with certain limited exceptions. |
|
Deferred tax is calculated on an undiscounted basis at the tax rates that are expected to apply in the periods in which the |
timing differences are expected to reverse, based on tax rates and laws enacted or substantively enacted at the balance sheet |
date. |
|
Hire purchase and leasing commitments |
Assets obtained under hire purchase contracts or finance leases are capitalised in the balance sheet. Those held under hire |
purchase contracts are depreciated over their estimated useful lives. Those held under finance leases are depreciated over |
their estimated useful lives or the lease term, whichever is the shorter. |
|
The interest element of these obligations is charged to the profit and loss account over the relevant period. The capital |
element of the future payments is treated as a liability. |
|
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to the profit and loss account on a straight line basis over the period of the |
lease. |

|
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits |
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are |
charged to the profit and loss account in the period to which they relate. |
|
Provisions |
Provisions are recognised when the company has a legal or constructive obligation as a result of a past event, it is probable |
that an outflow of resources will be required to settle the obligation, and the amount has been reliably estimated. Provisions |
are not recognised for future operating losses. Provisions are discounted where the time value of money is material. |
|
Where there are a number of similar obligations, the likelihood that an outflow will be required in settlement is determined |
by considering the class of obligations as a whole. A provision is recognised even if the likelihood of an outflow with |
respect to any one item included in the same class of obligations may be small. |
