The training cafe was being built during 2023. It has been used by staff to plan upcoming programme and activities. During this time there has been outreach and community engagement activities off-site, including open-access youth sessions, cooking with the community and employability advice sessions. We have been building work-placement networks across thefood chain, charitable and commercial suppliers, and 18-24 year olds not in employment or education across the food industry.
In person consultations with the wider community at town meetings and community centres. We have discussed needs and outcomes with educational institutions such as East Kent College, DWP, The Education People and local youth organisations such as Pie Factory, KRAN (Kent Refugee Action Network), ArtsEdEx, TDC (Thanet District Council), Porchlight, and more. This provided feedback for us to learn which age group has the least amount of provision across the board and requires the most support. It is 18-24s not in education or employment who organisations are finding difficult to access and are not receiving funding to support.TDC’s UKSPF vision aligns with The Perfect Place to Grow in the aspirations for young people locally to secure sustainable employment long term, in particular in the industries in the locality and hertiage of the area.We are acting on the call for support of young people as well as the ask from young people to be upskilled in the food industry as well as the need for mental health and wellbeing support.
