‘Servitude’ is Sunnah Trust’s one-year leadership programme which is aimed at young people from diverse backgrounds. Our aim is to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge in core leadership, as well as providing them with the experience and tools in applying and utilising these skills in their lives and communities. The programme allowed young people to open up and understand contemporary issues and challenges they face and enabled them to deal with these issues. Rather than focusing on any specific school curriculum, Servitude offers an exciting series of interactive workshops, energetic activities and fun-filled challenges, Servitude is specifically designed to inspire and enable each and every student to uncover their unique abilities. The programme gave students the opportunity to discover their own potential by developing interpersonal and leadership skills, increasing their self-confidence and acquiring the motivation and ability to solve problems, resolve conflicts and bring about change. During the financial year 2022/2023 40 students graduated from the youth leadership programme.32 young people climbed Mount Snowdon to help raise money for charity14 young people participated in live TV & radio opportunities85% of young people said that they want to give back to their local community 24 interventions to help develop young people with the life skills they need to succeed including communication, collaboration, creative-thinking & problem-solvingWe also provide a youth mentoring programme which is designed to provide one-to-one coaching and mentoring to young people between the ages of 13 and 19. The programme focusses on building the mentees' confidence and explores key skills that are required to succeed in the workplace including planning and organising, communication, teamwork, leadership and problem solving. It also prepares them for starting out in the workplace ensuring they have the basic tools and knowledge. This personalised programme caters to each individuals' requirements and ensures they can achieve their personal and developmental goals. This is a year-long programme and each month a particular skillset is covered in a 1 hour session between mentor and mentee. During the financial year 2022/2023 12 mentees have graduated from the programme. We also provide free hot meals, warm clothes and advocacy support to those struggling with homelessness based in Tower Hamlets. We can also signpost people to services offered by the local authority and other great voluntary groups and organisations in the area. In the near future, we hope to extend our services to other London broughs.
The company’s stakeholders are parents and students who participate in the youth leadership and mentoring programme. Upon completing the youth leadership programme, parents and students complete a feedback survey. This helps us identify areas of strengths and development. The programme has proven to be a transformative experience for young leaders. Serving as a powerful catalyst for positive skills growth, the programme empowers young leaders to acquire and hone essential skills, equipping them to support their communities. An analysis comparing the students' selfassessment, before and after the programme, clearly demonstrated the impact the programme has had on their personal development. "I am extremely grateful to the team at Sunnah Trust for doing an amazing job with my son. After attending the course, he has increased in confidence, courage and a can-do attitude in and out of school. He has been inspired and taken his own initiative to help others. I have no doubt he will continue to grow and become a much better individual as a result of his participation in the programme – Parent testimonial. "I have found the whole experience a confidence booster. I can now engage in a conversation and do not shy away from volunteering in taking responsibility. I loved the social aspect of the experience, and feel privileged to be given such an opportunity, as I know children do not often have this opportunity."Student testimonial
