Possible Pathways has been established in order to empower young people from underrepresented backgrounds within Neath Port Talbot to break into historically elitist sectors by offering mentoring, skills workshops, and paid placements. Since our incorporation, we have focused on building our infrastructure, connecting with the local community, and getting to know our stakeholders. During the past financial year (2021-2022), our activities have benefitted the community in the following ways:- Local stakeholders with knowledge or experience of the challenges faced by the community were able to drop into our launch event and engage in a consultation activity; this allowed us to co-create a mentorship framework tailored to the experiences of Neath Port Talbot residents - guaranteeing user benefits once the scheme is fully realised.- Directors have been engaging in informal mentoring in their field of expertise, responding to community requests for support via social media and personal referrals. Examples include advice given regarding higher apprenticeships within heavy industry and advice during the preparation of an Oxbridge university application.- Both our launch event and mentorship programme have provided the local community with volunteering opportunities. We engaged two new volunteers at the launch event for marketing and administrative support; we have also recruited 12 volunteer mentors who are ready to engage with beneficiaries. The programme is due to go live in 2023.
Possible Pathways stakeholders are young people in Neath Port Talbot, educational authorities, local councillors, local business owners, like-minded organisations, our mentors, and the directors. The directors of the company have grown up and remain embedded within the community - they have based the company's mission on lived experience and conversations with the above stakeholders. We will continue to consult our community and adapt our approach in line with the needs of our stakeholders.
