The company aims to support the parent and child relationship through their resources. The company started trading in October 2021. During the financial year 2021-2022 Close-Knit CIC’s benefitted the community in the following ways - In November 2021 Close-Knit CIC held a focus group with local parents of children under 2 to understand the challenges parents were facing and to determine the best ways to hear from parents in co-producing a video animation on baby brain development. Close-Knit CIC used the findings to inform their project grant applications, plans and the co-production process. Close-Knit CIC made links with community groups and partners such as Middlesbrough community cohesion team and the Maternity Voices Partnership to ensure they could hear from a range of parents and carers in the local area. In February 2022 Close-Knit CIC held our first community workshop on baby brain development with a group of mothers who were seeking asylum and living with their babies in Middlesbrough. Close-Knit CIC began the baby brain video animation project in March 2022 after receiving grant funding from Middlesbrough Council community chest fund, National Lottery Awards for all, Tees Valley Community foundation. The grants enabled Close-Knit CIC to employ two local part-time staff members to deliver on the project. In April 2022 Close-Knit CIC’s survey went live, allowing them to hear from parents and carers in the community and to work with them to produce a localised resource on baby brain development.
The company’s stakeholders are parents and caregivers, primarily but not restricted to parents and carers in Teesside, as well as practitioners and organisations who work with families. The directors of the company have lived in the local area for a long time and have developed the business model based on their personal experience as parents and in their professional careers working with children, parents and families. As previously stated, Close-Knit CIC has held a focus group with local parents and met with partners and connected with organisations who deliver services to parents including Maternity Voices Partnership and Public Health to gauge the need for and interest for our resources. Close-Knit asks for feedback from their workshops and has created a co-production process including a survey and further focus groups as they develop the baby brain development video animation. Close-Knit CIC used the findings from their initial focus group to inform their project grant applications, plans and the co-production process.Close-Knit CIC has used the feedback from the community workshop to make changes to their workshop structure and content. Close-Knit CIC will use information gathered from the survey that was released in April 2022 to inform the development of their video animation project.
