Over the last year more than 100 volunteers have helped Wells Community Network to deliver our services, including running the Helpline, marshalling for the vaccination clinic, support for the Welcome Hub, gardening at Wells Health Centre, and helping with deliveries at Wells Food BankThe WCN helpline has been running for more than three years. Most of the volunteers, including the call handlers, request coordinators (WACS) and those who fulfil the requests, have been with us since the beginning. We have helped 775 individuals in Wells and the local villages and some have been supported many times. We have taken 4640 calls. We have delivered 2017 prescriptions. We have undertaken 2226 shops. In addition, we have provided transport on 229 occasions for people to vaccination sites, GP appointments and hospital visits. In September we put the Wells Refugee Welcome Hub on a formal basis in partnership with Wells City Council. We are part of a network of 6 hubs across the county managed by CHARIS on behalf of Somerset Council and provide help and support in Ukrainian, Arabic, Kurdish Sorani and Turkish.Between December 2020 and June 2021our marshals provided West Mendip Hospital with 150 volunteer marshals to support the rollout of COVID vaccinations which delivered 38,000 vaccines. From March 2022 at St Thomas’ Church Hall 9163 jabs have been given 678 volunteer shifts covered and an amazing 2492 hours of volunteers time WCN have supported clinics since the start of the vaccination campaign in 2020 and 48,000 covid jabs given at these clinics. Marshals have also been helping at other Community Events - Picnics at the Bishops Palace, collecting and counting money at Wells carnival, Wells Dementia alliance charity walk to name a few. WCN was delighted to be able to raise the funds required in 2022 to purchase a Trishaw for Wells. The Trishaw is a free, bookable bike ride which would encourage older, isolated or more vulnerable members of the community to get outside for a healthful bike ride and explore the surrounding area.
Many of our activities are conducted in partnership and we carry out regular reviews. We host a Network Organisations conference call every two weeks to gather feedback and input and in September 2022 we held a Stakeholder Conference with our Network Organisations which obtained views and suggestions from a range of stakeholders across the community. In addition, we invited Service Users to attend our AGM and sought views on future activities
