In the last financial year Jigsaw Education CIC supported disadvantaged young people in the community to tackle illiteracy combined with improving their mindset and wellbeing. The social enterprise addressed concerns with literacy and wellbeing by offering fun and engaging workshops, programmes and tuition which enhanced essential Literacy skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. In addition, we provided ample opportunities to develop other skills and behaviours which are vital in today’s society such as: resilience, communication, leadership, team work, self-belief, time management etc. All of our projects ensured that National Curriculum criteria was incorporated whilst focusing on improving the mindset and wellbeing of the young people in our society.Literacy skills are not only vital for academic success, but they are essential for individuals to live happy, healthy and fulfilled lives. Our work was adapted to raise awareness of specific social issues impacting our society such as: equality, diversity, equity, homelessness, relationships, mental health, financial and digital literacy, drugs/alcoholism, crime/anti-social behaviour, bullying, eating disorders, plus more. Our team used online video conferencing platforms to ensure we educated, motivated and inspired the younger generation and exposed them to the community and society issues so they could brainstorm ideas, address these issues and consider viable solutions.
