This year AAC Camp UK held it's very first online camp, the AAC Magicians Camp. In the months leading up to the camp, the camp directors started a recruitment campaign to raise awareness of the upcoming camp. During the month of August, the director's held weekly camp activities, such as an virtual scavenger hunt, or a song activity, where AAC campers cooperated to make the camp song. We also paid AAC mentors to speak to the campers about topics of their choice. The final event of the camp was a magic show. Campers, supported by assistants, created scripts and programmed their devices to perform magic tricks for family and friends. As a culmination of all our hard work, the Magic Show was a fun and exciting way to wind down the camp.
The stakeholders of AAC Camp UK are AAC users and those who support AAC. Our website has a Contact Us form where visitors can share their thoughts about AAC Camp UK. This year we sought feedback the campers and assistants who attended the Magician’s Camp. We emailed a questionnaire to each camper to get their thoughts about the camp and what they would like to see changed for next year. No surveys were returned but we took this as a sign that, overall, the camp was an enjoyable experience, so we plan to hold the camp again this year.
