4theRegion is a membership alliance of SMEs, community groups, and regional organisations who want to collaborate for the benefit of the people, communities and environment of South West Wales (which incorporates the four counties of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot,Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire).The company facilitates events, conversations and working groups around key themes, including sustainable local food economy, development & regeneration, renewable energy, sustainable transport, and wellbeing. Bringing together key organisations and businesses,(who have significant resources and expertise to contribute) together with community members and groups, the goal is to give local people a voice and a sense of empowerment, enabling everyone to work together more effectively towards the shared goal: a happier, healthier South West Wales with a thriving green economy.4theRegion working groups, bringing together diverse groups of community, third sector and public sector partners, have delivered a handful of wellbeing initiatives including community transport schemes, community gardens, and school engagement projects.4theRegion events have created a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration and future visioning, around important societal themes including sustainable food, community transport, local economy, sustainable business, net zero, youth wellbeing, creative enterprise andplacemaking.4theRegion also publishes a monthly newsletter that collates good news from across South West Wales, highlighting the good work that is happening across the region to help create a sustainable and prosperous future.Overall, 4theRegion’s activities have helped people to feel more positive, empowered and connected, in the face of challenging times and fears for the future. The company provides a supportive platform for anyone who wants to make a difference, which promotes a sense ofagency in ordinary people and helps to unlock the innate strengths, assets and potential of communities which have suffered from underinvestment and neglect for too long.In partnership with large regional organisations, small and medium-sized businesses, and community changemakers, 4theRegion is helping South West Wales to adapt its economy and way of life in response to the climate, nature, economic and social emergencies that continue to unfold.
4theRegion is a membership alliance so our primary stakeholders are our members. Members come together for a wide range of conversations which we facilitate around key themes. These conversations enable us to uncover the shared priorities and aspirations of our members - which then leads to the formation of working groups and collaborative projectsto address those priorities.CIRCULAR ECONOMY - Our members said they want to grow a more regenerative economy in the region, capture value from waste and consume less.- We held a major Circular Economy conference, Empowering Future Generations.- We host a regional circular economy forum in partnership with Circular Economy Club.- We are developing a map of who is doing what across the region, and connecting businesses, communities and academia.WELLBEING -Our members said they want our region to put wellbeing at the heart of everything we do - for us to become the UK’s first ‘wellbeing region’. - We’re founding partners of Wellbeing Economy Wales, developing people’s understanding of wellbeing economics.- We help businesses embed the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act in what they do - not just public bodies.- We host ‘shared vision meetings’ in communities to help people plan and take action for wellbeing at a local level, based on their own strengths, aspirations and assets.PROCUREMENT -Our members said they want councils and public bodies to support regional businesses when tendering for public contracts, developing our foundational economy, keeping wealth within communities and delivering social value across our region.- We hosted a major procurement conference, The Art of The Possible.- We track who wins major contracts to hold organisations to account- We monitor Sell-to-Wales to share regional tenders in our newsletter.- We amplify success stories and celebrate regional wins.TRANSPORT -Our members said better connected and better integrated regional transport is a priority, and they want to be listened to by decision-makers.- We hosted a major transport conference, Moving Forward Together.- We became hosts of the Community Rail Partnership with Transport for Wales.- We’re engaging young people in conversations about travel, and we’re supporting communities to develop local transport projects.FOOD -Our members said they want everyone to have access to healthy food that’s produced ethically, regeneratively and locally, with shorter supply chains and stronger rural economies - a more resilient food system that delivers for people, places and planet.- We hosted a major food system conference, Food for the Region.- We’re supporting a number of emerging projects aimed at promoting healthy local food within communities.- We’re partnering with regional businesses to grow their impact.- We’re mapping who is doing what and connecting the dots.CO-PRODUCTION -Our members said they want a voice when decisions are made, and are frustrated when public bodies don’t engage or involve them.- We live and breathe co-production, and have specialist, practical expertise which any of our partners can leverage.- We consistently lobby local authorities to involve people and businesses in their work.- Culture change may be slow but it is happening! And we’re determined: the future of our region is in all our hands!POSITIVITY -Our members said they’re fed up with the negativity and want people to appreciate the good things about South West Wales.- We host the Swansea City Centre Conference & Exhibition to celebrate and showcase what we love about the city.- We share good news stories through our well respected monthly newsletter, blog and social media channels.- All our events and conversations start with what’s working well - we call it Asset Based Community Development.SOCIAL PURPOSE -Our members said they care most about making a positive impact in their communities, for the wellbeing of people, places and planet.- We’ve developed an app to promote regional businesses and connect them to community projects that are seeking support.- We shout about amazing social value projects that are making a difference locally.- We hosted the Social Value Exchange podcast, to enable collaboration on the projects our members are leading in the region.
Directors remuneration is shown in our Annual Accounts, and there were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
