Latest Group CIC has continued to run projects that benefit marginalised communities in Brighton and Hove and increasingly in the deprived coastal town of Newhaven. Working with The Job Centres, we run transfer of skills programmes to the unemployed and create opportunities that help future employmentWe are fortunate to have broadcast time from Latest TV so can offer a voice to the marginalised - the LGBTQ+ community, the diverse ethnic minority communities and those living in socio-economic deprivation. Some examples - we ran the Blackness Festival, with music, poetry, dance, showcasing the community's talent to support a community more impacted than most by the pandemic. We run Schools Out, a programme across three deprived schools with their LGBTQ+ youth groups, their ethnic minority groups, those disengaged from school to create their own TV and online streamed features, evaluated as increasing self-confidence and esteem as well as literacy. We are working with The Regeneration Team at Lewes District Council to create Newhaven TV, an online streamed channel for ALL Newhaven communities, neglected for so long, to creating features and telling their stories. We support heritage projects - The Green Wall in Brighton, The LGBTQ+ history in Newhaven.
The CIC stakeholders are the communities that we serve and we are in constant dialogue with them. Our Board of Directors all live in and are part of these communities themselves and have community networks in which they invest time to ascertain feedback and local views. We deliver projects in partnership with the schools and have formal feedback sessions with teachers and pupils. We organise an annual screening of the young people's work for parents, teachers, local councillors and other community leaders where we seek feedback through through discussion and a short survey which we ask to be completed. We use this to learn lessons going forward. We work extensively with third sector partners and public service bodies and have progress meetings where the projects are evaluated. We also extensively use interactive social media platforms and receive feedback from many sources.
