Basis of preparing the financial statements |
|
|
Turnover |
Turnover is recognised at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods and services provided in the normal course of business, and is shown net of value added tax and other sales related taxes. The fair value of consideration takes into account trade discounts. |
|
Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when: |
- the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have passed to the buyer, usually on delivery of the goods; |
- the amount of the revenue can be measured reliably; |
- it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the entity; and |
- the costs incurred or to be incurred in respect of the transaction can be measured reliably. |

Tangible fixed assets |
Tangible fixed assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less any accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. |
|
Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life or, if held under a finance lease, over the lease term, whichever is the shorter. |

The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the difference between the disposal proceeds and the carrying value of the asset, and is credited or charged to the statement of comprehensive income. |

Government grants |
Government grants are accounted for under the accrual model in which revenue grants are recognised in income on a systematic basis over the periods in which the company recognises the related costs for which the grant is intended to compensate. |
|
Stocks |
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. |
|
Stocks are stated at the lower of cost and net realisable value, being the estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost includes the original purchase cost and further expenditure incurred in bringing the goods to their current location and condition. |
|
At each reporting date, an assessment is made for impairment, being any excess of the carrying amount of stocks over its estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. The impairment loss, and any subsequent reversal, is recognised in the statement of comprehensive income. |

Taxation |
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. |

Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted. |
|
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the statement of financial position date. |

Deferred tax |
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the statement of financial position date. |
|
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference. |
|
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. |
|
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits |
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate. |
